Projektinfo

During the residency I will do a research for the project / exhibition with a working title “Viennese Odyssey (gastARTbeiters' stories)”. The idea behind the work is to display and confront the stories of the workers who came from Yugoslavia in the 1960s for the sake of temporary work in Vienna and those of the artists and cultural workers coming to that city in the past 10 years.
Viennese Odyssey raises the question if and in which way is the notion “Gastarbeiter“ still relevant for understanding the work force in the times of global(ized) nomadism. Apart from its economic aspect, the moving and movable work force questions the political and cultural ideas of belonging to a national identity and its “diaspora“ today.
