Szacsva y Pál

After having graduated as a graphic artist and painter in 1993 and 1995 at local art universities in Eastern-Europe, Szacsva y Pál has completed several postgraduate studies in video and new media art across Europe (École Superieure des Beaux Arts, Marseille, Kunst-Hochschule Berlin, Higher Institute of Fine Arts, Antwerp) and eventually, in 2009, he was awarded a practice based doctoral degree in intermedia art at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts. As a concept based artist, Szacsva y Pál works in a non media specific manner developing projects that involves media ranging from site specific installation to photography, video, Internet etc.

In his presentation he will mainly focus on recent video works, which generally deal with social, political and ideological questions of his home country but also several issues of global interest. Videos to be screened at this occasion include: „A Walk through Empire" (a corrective reading of Negri and Hardt's book: „Empire") „Another Finger Exercise" (a 7 minutes video presenting the EU Expansion Ceremony of 2004 in a critical light), „Air Parade and Fire Works" (a harsh critique of Hungary's national day ceremony of 20th of August 2009) and „Pericycle" (a 3 minutes metaphoric video about global poverty)
