With Inna Shevchenko (activist and author) and Shoura Hashemi (managing director of Amnesty International Austria), moderated by Christine Scheucher (cultural editor Ö1)
On the occasion of International Women's Day and the presentation of the photo installation Peace Plan on the forecourt of the MuseumsQuartier, Inna Shevchenko and Shoura Hashemi discuss the role of women in war and conflict, the challenges of activism, the role of art and the importance of international solidarity.
Inna Shevchenko is a Ukrainian activist, author and prominent voice in the fight for women's rights and freedom of expression. As a member of the feminist movement FEMEN, she became internationally known for her determined resistance against patriarchal oppression and political repression. In Peace Plan, her work with photographer Elsa Okazaki, she impressively addresses the destructive violence of war and the often empty discourse on peace.
Shoura Hashemi is the Executive Director of Amnesty International Austria and is committed to the protection of human rights worldwide. Her work includes advocacy for people affected by war and political persecution as well as the fight against gender-based violence.
In their conversation, the two of them shed light on the mechanisms of war and violence against women, discuss resistance and solidarity and ask what responsibility society - and each individual - bears.
