Swinging Sixties at mumok on Carnival Sunday
Free admission in a creative 60s look
Sun 02.03., 10 – 18h
On Shrove Sunday, 02.03., we invite you to come to mumok for free in the style of our exhibition Mapping the 60s. Art Stories from the mumok Collections, we invite you to come to mumok for free if you come to the museum in a creative 60s look!
Major socio-political movements of the 21st century have their roots in the 1960s. The developments of this period are not only socially and politically paradigmatic, but also of central cultural-political importance. Black Lives Matter and #MeToo, for example, are based on the anti-racist and feminist awakenings of this period, as are the current discussions about war, mediatisation and mechanisation, consumption and capitalism.
The changes resulted, for example, from the hippie youth movement, which advocated peace, closeness to nature and questioning the moral concepts of the time. Criticism of consumer society was also reflected in the style of clothing.
Let yourself be inspired! All visitors who come in the flower power look with crocheted dresses, flared trousers or batik patterns, who take Twiggy's style as a model, who are inspired by the rock music of the time or who want to recreate their current social protest concerns in historical hippie clothing, receive free admission to the current exhibitions at mumok.
Between 10 am and 2 pm, all dressed-up art fans can have their photo taken at the eSel photo station in the foyer. Photographer "eSel" puts the flower children, Woodstock fans and demonstrators in the right (flash) light and has also prepared something for the youngest hippies.
We would like to emphasise that our museum is a non-discriminatory and inclusive place and appeal to you to consider this carefully when choosing your costume.
