ANTopolis by Laurent Mignonneau and Christa Sommerer is an interactive digital artwork installed on the façade of the Leopold Museum at the MQ.
Five thousand realistically rendered ants moving in all directions depict the MQ site and its visitors live in gigantic dimensions.
As soon as visitors to the complex stand in front of a specially positioned camera, they become the main figure on the interactive media façade. This means that not only do visitors to the MQ communicate with one another as they—deliberately or “accidentally”—appear together on the façade, but the Leopold Museum creates a form of symbolic communication with its visitors by depicting them, by adopting them as the main protagonists and projecting them onto its façade.
