Kunst & Autobiografie is the fifth edition of our event series Salon Différance – a collaboration between the Centre for Science and Research (ZWF) of the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK) and Tanzquartier Wien.

"Kunst & Autobiografie" concerns itself with the growing trend in the arts of labelling works as autobiographical. Especially with marginalised identity groups, this artistic strategy goes hand in hand with the political claim that those affected tell their own stories themselves. How do autobiographical works position themselves in relation to a critical understanding of identity, reality and authenticity that exposes any form of experience, interaction, intimacy and identity as performative and based on narratives imposed by others and one’s own narratives? The evening explores the boundaries between artistic self-narration and performative identity.
