MQ Artist-in-Residence Rita Hasani

In her video installation at COMBINAT in the MuseumsQuartier, MQ Artist-in-Residence Rita Hasani explores the interface between biology and fashion design using a series of experimental bio-textiles. The materials she developed through a methodical bio-fabrication process serve as a case study for future ecological fashion design. To produce her innovative materials, the Kosovo-based fashion designer, who will be living and working at the MuseumsQuartier in March and April 2025 following an invitation from the BMKÖS, uses natural and recyclable substances such as coffee, agar, sodium alginate, calcium chloride, vinegar, mushrooms, corn starch, and potato starch. A creative manufacturing process aims to promote sustainable alternatives in textile development and thus protect nature and the environment in the future.

Rita Hasani holds a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Advanced Integrated Design at UBT College in Kosovo. As a design assistant at Fight or Flight Studio, she specializes in sustainable fashion, costume design, and material innovation. She has collaborated on notable projects such as Throwback to Wonderland (2022), The Artists of Tomorrow Award (2023), Mothers of War (2023), and Living Threads (2024). Rita's achievements include being a finalist in the Frankfurt Style Award (2020) and winning the KAMA Award for Best Design (2019).
