At once tender and unsettling, the films, sculptures, installations, and performances of Geumhyung Jeong, one of the most exciting artists of her generation and currently to be seen at Venice Biennale, are often studies in animism of some sort. In 2022, ImPulsTanz presents a comprehensive show of the visual artist, performer and dancer. Spa & Beauty investigates the relationship of body-objects. Familiar things such as plastic bathtubs or brushes become something else, creating a bizarre spa whose objects directly engage with the audience’s body. 7ways are seven interactions with objects – seven peculiar duets. Despite its almost brutal simplicity, this early performance by Jeong is also a poetically amusing masterpiece about the ever more pressing question of the material and imaginary boundaries between bodies and machines.
