Fanni Futterknecht: "SIMULATION UNIVERSE"
DANCE/PERFORMANCE/MUSIC

SIMULATION UNIVERSE is dedicated to the many facets of toy and play culture. The focus is on the aspect of simulation. Fanni Futterknecht critically reflects on the political dimensions of games and toys as well as the marketing of fantasy in an increasingly capitalist world.
The project was inspired by a two-month stay in Japan, one of the largest exporters of toys worldwide and an epitome of the global influence of toys and game narratives. Characters based on Japanese comics, films and animations like "Astro Boy, Godzilla, Power Rangers, Sailor Moon and Pokémon" have shaped the imagination of people all over the world, created trends in design and pop culture and overcame the divides between Japan and the West. Following the dramaturgy of personal experiences, Futterknecht examines various forms of representation in her performance lecture and sheds light on the social and political aspects of playing games and the ways this is marketed.
