July 2024 - August 2024Regina Rzaeva (born 1996) is a graduate of the Azerbaijan University of Culture and Art with a degree in fashion design.
Rzaeva uses traditional painting techniques and works with different materials and fabrics. For the artist, the fabric ground is an essential component of her paintings. Using the technique of thin lettering, she applies the paint in fine vertical lines along the fabric structure of the canvas, entering into a dialogue with the surface texture. Rzaeva describes her artistic method as observational. For her, art is an integral part of philosophising and recognising the concept of time. "For me, time is associated with constant change. It is always a search and reflection, a non-permanent position". Spontaneity and the study of one's own perception are key aspects of her art. With the subtlety, "tremulousness" and lightness of her works, the artist wants to draw attention to the impermanence and fragility of self-p erception.
During her residency at MQ, Regina Rzaeva will explore the way she perceives the surrounding space and contemplates the external environment. With great care, she will consider the details and meanings within it to discover new aspects of her practice in this new environment. The artist wants to create a complex overall picture. "Subtle fragments and details are the most interesting, you can express a lot through them, and I am excited to see what will happen in a new, unfamiliar place. I want to reflect this perspective as well as possible in the works that will be created in the MQ. I'm interested in looking at the outside through the inside, incorporating the city and its interior, and then presenting changes and ideas in their pure form."
