November 2024 - December 2024Mauro German Suarez Torrico is an artist and architect whose work combines architecture, pedagogy and art. After graduating in architecture in 2010, he specialized in teaching architecture, design and urbanism and completed a master's degree at the University of Buenos Aires in 2017. In 2023, he obtained his PhD in Educational Sciences and has since deepened his research as a scholar at the IICE (Institute for Research in Educational Sciences) of the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature.
In his artistic career, he has been supported by renowned institutions: in 2023, he received the Artist-in-Residence grant from the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, awarded by the Académie d'Architecture de France. His book “Pequeña filosofía del taller” (Flanbé Ediciones, Buenos Aires), published in 2022, reflects his pedagogical philosophy and describes his methodical approach to the relationship between theory and practice in creative work.
Suarez Torrico teaches at various universities in Buenos Aires and is involved in workshops, conferences and seminars throughout Latin America and Europe. His works are characterized by the interaction between drawing and writing and operate at the interface between architecture, education, research and art. His projects invite a dialog about space, ecology and the social impact of architecture and promote a critical reflection on the understanding and communication of urban and artistic design.
Mauro German Suarez Torrico's research project titled “Fictioning the landscape: artistic practices for designing possible futures” aims to establish a dialog with his previous work in Paris (“Traces for an archaeology of the future”), with a particular focus on urban rivers. During his residency at MQ, he intends to carry out an artistic work that explores future scenarios and connects architecture and landscape within the framework of art and science. By looking at the Danube and the city of Vienna as speculative contexts, Suarez Torrico sets the creative mechanism in motion - What narratives would emerge if the river disappeared? - and will serve as a vehicle for imagining and reflecting on water as a vital natural resource, and its presence in the contemporary urban landscapes we inhabit.
