Luise Marchand (lives and works in Berlin) deals with post-industrial society, capitalist value creation processes and the dynamics of the desire economy. Her starting point is always photography, which is strongly characterised by the aesthetics of advertising photography, which she applies formally and at the same time extends conceptually into the exhibition space. As a master student of Prof. Peter Piller and Prof. Peggy Buth, she graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig in 2019.

Project info

It's hard to imagine Vienna's cityscape without them, the so-called "riders". On bicycles, e-scooters or scooters, wearing colourful jackets and carrying square rucksacks, they deliver food, groceries or medicines to your doorstep within minutes at the touch of a button. These gig workers are a symbol of the changing work structures of our time, characterised by digitalisation, globalisation and the rise of new work models such as freelancing, crowdworking and the platform economy. Their working conditions are often insecure, with low wages, a lack of social security and high workloads. In her work ‘Liquid Company’, Luise Marchand accompanied these gig workers and will do the same in Vienna. For the exhibition in the EIKON Schauraum (Opening 05.09.2024, 19h) in the MQ Showrooms, the existing work will be expanded with a second video work that will be created during the residency.
