Wiener Festwochen: New Creation

The eagerly awaited new piece by choreographer Bruno Beltrão and his Grupo de Rua has arrived! The company’s works have been thrilling Festwochen audiences since 2005, most recently in 2017 with the tension-filled piece Inoah. Beltrão’s choreography continually revolves around irresolvable conflicts and antagonistic trends. Between encounter and confrontation, aggression and excess, he is fascinated by the search for solidarity and mutuality. In 2022, Brazil’s social divide is more exacerbated than ever. Agitation and hatred dominate, prompting Beltrão and his company of twelve extraordinary dancers to wonder how to keep things moving when inhumane politics cripple all resistance and a toxic fog smothers any positive prospects? Bruno Beltrão is to hip-hop what William Forsythe is to ballet: a revolutionary. He combines urban dance with contemporary dance, i.e. the virtuosity of the street with the abstraction of the stage, to create bridging experiences. Bodies take on a life of their own in dynamic breakaways, all with impressive energy. The space as a whole begins to throb and pulsate.
