Wiener Festwochen: Eszter Salamon Monument 0.6: Heterochronie
DANCE/PERFORMANCE/MUSIC
Archives do more than reference the past: they also structure our idea of the future. Artist and performer Eszter Salamon lives in Paris, Berlin and Brussels, and sees choreography as a resistant practice to the canon of knowledge. The a cappella performance MONUMENT 0.6: HETEROCHRONY is based on two research studies: on the one hand, the mummification techniques that were common practice in the Capuchin catacombs of Palermo until 1920; and, on the other, Sicily’s music. Salamon combines leave-taking rituals and insurgent energy, tableau vivant and revolutionary songs, the living and the dead. A montage of acoustic bodies, choreographed sculptures and polyphonic melodies transforms the stage into an imaginary space for new realities, a living monument. By linking the presence withvarious historical time strands and practices, the work takes a stand against oblivion.
