In her KABINETTbooklet “Reading Women,” Ulli Lust walks past the Maria Theresa monument to visit the Venus of Willendorf in the Natural History Museum. She thinks about her part - for example how women are portrayed in public and how gender relations change over time. Born in Vienna, she lives and works in Berlin and is one of the most important German-speaking comic artists with publications such as “Heute ist der letzte Tag vom Rest deines Lebens [Today is the last day of the rest of your life]” and “Wie ich versuchte, ein guter Mensch zu sein [How I tried to be a good person]”. She is a professor at Hannover University of Applied Sciences, where she teaches illustrative design and comics. Her new book “Die Frau als Mensch: Am Anfang der Geschichte [Woman as a Human: At the Beginning of History]” will also be published in February 2025 – a graphic novel about art and gender roles in early human history. The book is now available for pre-order from Reprodukt publishers.
