In 2024, the Leopold Museum is dedicating itself to the impressive history of the traditional textile company Joh. Backhausen & Söhne, which was founded in 1849. As an important partner of the Wiener Werkstätte, Backhausen realised the designs of outstanding artists such as Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser and Otto Wagner. The exhibition provides fascinating insights into the Backhausen archive and shows the symbiosis of art and craftsmanship that characterised important works of Viennese Modernism such as the Palais Stoclet or the Purkersdorf Sanatorium.
