Themed Tour: Mapping the 60s – Art World after Danto

Sun 06.10., 14h

The themed tour offers an in-depth examination of the cultural diversity and social upheavals of the "long 1960s", with a particular focus on Arthur C. Danto's concept of the "art world". From revolutionary Pop Art to the avant-garde experiments of Viennese Actionism and the Fluxus movement, the various artistic movements of this period are explored. During the tour, we will examine the significance of these works in the context of Danto's art world theory in order to gain a deeper understanding of the cultural upheavals of the time. The artworks are not seen as mere images of past eras, but as milestones in social developments. They are primary sources of cultural history that can provide clues to problems that still exist today. The special historical role of the mumok as an original museum of the 20th century is illustrated on the basis of individual stages in the development of the collection.

Participation in the guided tour is free of charge with a valid admission ticket. Tour is in German.
