SOUTHPOLE.WINDSTILL

06.12. to 03.03., play, 9 to 14 years

Ida lives in a peach-coloured block of flats on the outskirts of the city. She knows all about polar research, crossword puzzles, tins of food and can operate washing machines on her own. She lives there with her mum, who you never know what mood she's in. Sometimes she is the South Pole mum, sometimes the North Pole mum. The North Pole and the South Pole are extreme habitats. To cope with her life, Ida is supported by her (imaginary) friend, the polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott. Together they turn Ida's everyday life into a research project, until one day Ida meets the neighbour's girl Amrei, who knows everything about stars. This encounter opens doors.

südpol.windstill was awarded the KinderStückePreis at the Mülheim Theatre Festival.

"Armela Madreiter tells the story of a complex mother-daughter relationship with humour and sensitivity, in which the horrors of addiction are confronted with ingenuity and empathy" (jury statement)
