Reading: Marcel Beyer

German writer and poet Marcel Beyer will present a reading within the Olaf Nicolai installation. Beyer writes libretti, novels, essays, music reviews, and poetry. “For me, writing begins where concepts are no longer fixed,” Beyer wrote in Nonfiction, a collection of essays published in 2003, “where something becomes fragmented, where I want to hear something beside what I was able to hear up until then.”

Marcel Beyer (*1965, Tailfingen / Württemberg) studied German and English Literature at the University of Siegen. He worked as a lector of the literary journal Concepts, and wrote for the German music magazine Spex. In 1991, Beyer's first novel Das Menschfleisch was published. Later notable novels include The Karnau Tapes (Flughunde) (1995) and Spione (2000). He has written three celebrated volumes of poetry; Falsches Futter (1997), Erdkunde (2002) and Graphit (2014). Beyer was awarded the Georg Büchner Prize in 2016, one of the most prestigious prizes for literature in the German language.
