Obstacles in our sky
CHILDREN & FAMILY, DANCE/PERFORMANCE/MUSIC
Since time immemorial, people have had the desire to be able to explain their tangled destinies - to give them meaning. In doing so, they have directed their gaze upwards from an early age. It is nothing new to look for the reasons for what happens to us in life in the orbits of the heavenly bodies. From Stonehenge to the pyramids of Giza to Ronald Reagan and, last but not least, Beyoncé: but what's the point? Shirking responsibility for one's own actions? Passively submitting to one's predetermined fate?
Astrology is a doctrine that assumes a fateful influence of the stars on the individual, his life plan, human society and the entire earthly nature. The duet "Obstacles in our sky" by dancer and choreographer Johanna Heusser with performer Jesse Inman explores astrology as a cultural practice. With self-experiments and songs about the signs of the zodiac, they approach the search for meaning in a humorous way.
