Nora Turato

ART, DANCE/PERFORMANCE/MUSIC

In her spoken word performances Nora Turato incorporates fragments of advertising slogans, daily conversations, literature, social media posts, clichés and politics that culminate in a powerful soundscape that can be situated between performance art and contemporary music. Her utterly energetic and determined speech takes the form of a poetic slam that renders the viewer with a verbal image of our current time. Turato edits her script-based live performances in videos as well as physical works addressing the question of how to document or archive a performance-work.

In her recently published book pool # 1 (Graphic design by Sabo Day) Turato compiled texts that she has used in her performances as well as graphic works. After an introduction of the book, Christian Egger will talk to the artist about her work.

Nora Turato (b. 1991 in Zagreb, Croatia) is currently a resident at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. Turato has recently performed and exhibited at: Vleeshal, Middelburg (2018); Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève (2017); 32. Biennial of Graphic Arts Ljubljana (2017); Bonner Kunstverein (2017); Kunstverein Cologne (2017); KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2017) and NAK, Aachen (2017). The artist will be part of Manifesta 12, Palermo (2018).
