Nicholas Grafia & Mikołaj Sobczak: Rooms
ART, DANCE/PERFORMANCE/MUSIC
Wed 19.06., 20h, Performance
The artists Nicholas Grafia and Mikołaj Sobczak will present an adaptation of their performance "Rooms" (2020) in context of the exhibition Genossin Sonne during the Wiener Festwochen | Freie Republik Wien.
The performance will be held in English.
Free admission. No registration required.
Throughout the thirty-minute scripted performance, Grafia and Sobczak expose the unconscious violence against the Other that forms the foundation of our shared cultures. Both actors stand on stage possessed over and over by various entities who tell intertwined stories of exclusion and injustice. Staged in their rooms, the characters presented form part of various "quiet revolutions" – a major social or political change attained without violence or significant upheaval – as they plot (revenge or a plan of action) from the confines of the domestic. Each telling tales that stem from global history, Filipino myths, Slavic folklore, and contemporary political events. Their testimonies convene into one revolutionary exploration of history, ideology, irrationality and the subjective nature of memory.
