‘Egocentric Vision’ is the debut album by Vienna-based musician Anja Obermayer aka Anja Om. In her pieces, she plays with reflected egocentricity and seemingly banal but intense emotions. Inspired by artists such as Björk, Laura Mvula and choir composer Eric Whitacre, she combines contemporary polyphony, improvisation, narrative pop songs and piano-based art song. Questioning herself lyrically, she embarks on a search for the momentary, egocentric truth.
Anja Om's debut album ‘Egocentric Vision’ was released in May 2022. Even though 80% of this album consists of Anja's voice, it is by no means typical a cappella sounds. On the contrary - it is lively, honest and in some places unusually dirty. Using what is probably the oldest instrument, the voice, her music explores individuality and emotionality and tells stories of being human. Anja Om's fascination with polyphony runs through the entire musical concept. It is precisely this play with polyphony and its soundscapes that bridges the gap between pop songs and improvisation. It is not only on record that Anja Om asks her consumers to listen, pause and linger.
The album ‘Egocentric Vision’ will be performed live on the MQ Summer Stage, supported by the versatile singers and musicians Veronika Sterrer, Ricarda Oberneder, Mira Perusich, Lucia Karning and Ursula Reicher.
