Live DJ-Set: estudio elgozo
Every Monday from 18 – 22h, the Monday Listening Club offers visitors a unique combination of vinyl listening experience, vintage flea market and live DJ sets on the MQ Summer Stage. It invites you to enjoy the beauty and fascination of vinyl records in a relaxed and inspiring environment. Music lovers can come together to share memories, discover treasures and celebrate the timeless magic of music.
estudio elgozo is a creative duo that was born in the Colombian Caribbean in 2011, when Susana Ojeda, an anthropologist, artist and activist from Bogotá, and Hubert Marz, a Viennese architect, decided to collaborate on audiovisual projects.
Following the path of gozo, joy, they found a way to continue enjoying the sounds of the Colombian Caribbean in Vienna by researching the extensive vinyl production of Colombian tropical music.
Their musical selection is heavily influenced by the music played in verbenas, picó parties and radio stations in the Colombian Caribbean. It includes salsa and traditional rhythms of Colombian music such as cumbia, bullerengue, porro, mapalé, chandé, puya, guaracha and merecumbé, was well as West African rhythms such as soukous and highlife, and newer sounds nourished by this musical exchange between Africa and Abya Yala (a decolonial way of referring to the continent called America), such as champeta and various kinds of cumbia fusion.
With an interest in promoting and sharing new musical productions rooted in these sonorities, they recently launched the label discos elgozo, kickstarting with a series of singles by female-led groups celebrating ancestral traditions through the lens of queer feminist expression.
