Live DJ-Set: Alaska Al Tropical (Boom Boom Vienna)
Every Monday from 18 – 22h, the Monday Listening Club offers visitors a unique combination of vinyl listening experience, vintage flea market and live DJ sets on the MQ Summer Stage. It invites you to enjoy the beauty and fascination of vinyl records in a relaxed and inspiring environment. Music lovers can come together to share memories, discover treasures and celebrate the timeless magic of music.
Is the world a disc after all? Alaska Al Tropical regularly travels to the remotest corners of the planet with an empty record case to return home with black gold from the past. Peruvian cumbia from the Amazon, Ethio jazz from Addis Ababa, Muslim funk from northern Benin or Turkish psychedelic rock - phenomena of the past that have always fused international trends and local influences into new sub-genres. His focus is on South America, West Africa and the Middle East - summarised under the term "Outernational", as a counter-concept to the international music market of the First World. In addition to the wider world, local music history is close to his heart - in Innsbruck he runs a local subculture archive and, together with friends, the Digatone association and label, which is dedicated to re-releasing forgotten Austrian music from the past. For years, he has run various event series such as the Accordia Schallplattenclub, ¡Exitos! and Maloja Fever and also has a hand in the Viennale's evening programme. Unusual sounds, wild rebellious youths and virtuosos on unknown instruments - the more obscure the more interesting. Sophisticated Boom Boom!
