Meaghan Burke's music draws heavily on the contemporary and classical music she has studied (and frequently performs as a founding member of the string quartet The Rhythm Method) and combines the energy of freely improvised music with the direct emotional connection of folk and punk. Meaghan sings it as it is, whether it's a love drama from her wild days in Vienna, a lullaby for her twin children, a musical rendition of whistles or an ode to crying on public transport. After several years without performing in Vienna, Meaghan is overjoyed to return to the MuseumsQuartier and bring her music to her spiritual home.
Meaghan Burke has been hailed as ‘outstanding’ and has a ‘streetwise, feline voice’ (The New York Times). She is a cellist, singer-songwriter and composer working in the fields of contemporary music, improvised music and song. Her work explores the relationships between sound, storytelling and the body, seeking new ways of caring in performance and listening. Meaghan is a founding member of the contemporary feminist string quartet The Rhythm Method, the avant-grunge band Forever House and the Viennese songwriting collective Loose Lips Sink Ships. Meaghan's most recent song album with The Rhythm Method, ‘A Few Concerns’ (Gold Bolus Recordings), has been described as ‘an intelligent, vibrant album that is both provocative and a pleasure to listen to’.
Meaghan is a frequent guest artist with many contemporary ensembles in New York, including International Contemporary Ensemble, TAK and S.E.M. Ensemble, as well as Miho Hazama's Grammy-nominated jazz chamber band m-unit.
