Martin Markeli installs his “Big Art Race Track” as part of the MQ showroom openings at MQ Raum D. The artist offers an immersive experience with his installations, engaging visitors not only visually but also actively. His work is heavily influenced by the cultural trends of the 1970s, an era when model car racing tracks became a symbol of rising prosperity and the automobile was established as a status symbol. In his work, this racetrack becomes a metaphorical stage where societal themes such as speed, competition, and consumerism are reflected.
Markeli uses the iconic model racetrack as an artistic tool to question a society that is moving ever faster, with values increasingly focused on performance and status. The installations he presents embody these themes in a landscape populated by fast cars and symbolic figures from the world of consumer culture. The interactive nature of the installations invites visitors to become part of the art, allowing them not only to observe but also to experience and influence it.
At the core of his work is the relationship between the artwork and its audience. Through playful interaction, the visitors' senses are stimulated in various ways, creating a direct connection to the themes being explored. Markeli's work challenges viewers to reflect on the rapid pace and consumer orientation of society by taking them on a journey through a staged, symbol-laden arena of car racing.
