Lenio Kaklea: Agrimi (Fauve)
DANCE/PERFORMANCE/MUSIC
Austrian Premiere
In Europe, forests are generally considered to be cultural landscapes and recreational areas. The peace and quiet as well as the clean air are much appreciated, hunters fetch game and pickers pick mushrooms or berries. Greek-born choreographer Lenio Kaklea examines the forest as a primeval, elusive space and calls the processes of its domestication to mind. In her trio Agrimi (Fauve), ideas of wilderness and conquest dance, mingling with legends of hunting and associations to dance and sexuality. For Kaklea, forests are places of meditation, ecstasy and life but they can also be fraught with danger, playing out dramas of bare survival: on a stylised stage with poles and video projections, the dancers act out the release into the wild as well as parallels between dance and the untamed.
