Lecture and Response: SLA IBA_Wien meets Architects #14
FREE ENTRY, EDUCATION, ARCHITEKTUR
"Everywhere our ambition and mission are the same: To design places for life. All life." The architect Mette Skjold presents prize-winning projects by the acclaimed office SLA, who have been designing open-air public spaces around the world for thirty years.
Alongside the reduction of air pollution and heat island effects, green spaces and recreational areas create new functions for the neighbourhood while enabling people to live in closer contact with nature. SLA designs on all scales: city-wide master plans, climate adaptation, inner-city open spaces or residential green spaces — such as in Denmark’s largest social housing estate Gellerup in Aarhus, in 2019. SLA’s projects are shaping a new image of urban nature that is both aesthetically and biologically diverse, resilient and sustainable.
This year, the popular series of events held in cooperation with the IBA_Vienna is dedicated to the topic of green spaces close to housing, and so to groundbreaking work in landscape architecture.
