JOUR FIXE Art Education: Making history? Listen to the story!

What is preserved and what is forgotten? And who decides? Our understanding of history is shaped by many social factors that often reflect existing power relations. In the process, many stories are rewritten or omitted. Oral tradition offers the opportunity to give space to people whose stories would otherwise be forgotten. In this way, their individual narrative and language colouring can be preserved. In this workshop, the possibilities of preserving history through oral history methods in combination with podcast formats will be demonstrated. The recording of a conversation with a former guest worker will be presented as an example. The concept of ‘memory’ can thus be critically reflected upon and expanded.
