Unheard voices. Unknown faces. Untold chapters of the city's history. Labour migration began 60 years ago and is one of the milestones in the history of migration in Austria. Guest workers have significantly shaped Vienna, but their stories have remained largely untold.

The exhibition gives space to these unknown chapters of the city's history and raises the question: Who does history belong to? How was history written? Is there already a history of migrants in Austria?

From 25 May to 10 June 2024, the DSCHUNGEL WIEN is showing the exhibition "VOICES OF DIVERSITY" by the organisation JUKUS in collaboration with the collective MUSMIG. It shows the history of labour migrants in Austria and expands the show to include an additional Viennese perspective.

The multimedia installation includes videos, sound recordings and photos in which representatives of the minority groups talk about their individual stories, demands and experiences. In this way, the exhibition emphasises the importance of minority movements and the history of guest labour in Austria. Texts from the writing and theatre workshop "AUF DER SUCHE" also illustrate how teenagers and young adults from Vienna deal with the topic. Together with the authors Armela Madreiter and Thomas Perle, they embark on a search for traces to explore the stories, voices and perspectives of guest workers in Vienna on the basis of places and biographies. The performative production "AUF DER SUCHE: GASTARBEITERLER 60", staged by dramaturge Elif Bilici, will be presented as part of the "FESTIVAL DER THEATERWERKSTÄTTEN", which takes place from 7 to 11 June at the DSCHUNGEL WIEN, and celebrates its premiere on 7 June at 19.30h.
