Eva Hesse - Drawings
ART
In cooperation with the artistic estate of Eva Hesse (1936–1970), mumok presents the rarely seen graphic work of this American artist with German roots. This exhibition shows a selection of works from the large holdings at the Allen Memorial Art Museum in Oberlin, Ohio, which houses the archive of the artist’s work, with sketches and diaries, and letters and photos. In spite of her comparatively short career, Hesse is seen as one of the most influential artists of post-minimalism. Her paintings, sculptures, and drawings reflect the various artistic movements of the twentieth century, from surrealism to conceptual art, culminating in their own idioms that resist all attempts at classification. “It’s not the new, it is what is yet not known, thought, seen, touched but really what is not and that is” (Eva Hesse, 1968).
