This open discussion with Jules Gleeson, Krõõt Juurak and PARASOL participants Nadine Mathis and Yuwol June C. echoes ideas and questions that surround the creation process of SCHOOL, Juurak’s project with PARASOL: What makes us think a dance piece is "good", "perfect" or "professional"? How do values of perfection, efficiency and optimisation of artistic work influence choreographic production? What margins of escape from such norms may exist – materially, financially, conceptually, practically? Re-activating these questions beyond choreographic practice and contextualising them in the framework of the expansion of cognitive capitalism, this discussion seeks modes of resistance in the form of "de-professional" or "imperfect" aesthetics and discourses and asks how they might relate to joy, pleasure, or fun.
