Calexico
DANCE/PERFORMANCE/MUSIC
Praised by NPR for their "sprawling, intercultural indie rock", Calexico has spent most of the last three decades exploring the dusty musical borderlands of the American southwest and writing unique, cinematic songs that are as mysterious and grandiose as the arid desert landscapes that inspired them.
Founded in Tucson, AZ, by guitarist and singer Joey Burns and drummer John Convertino, the band achieved widespread recognition in the mid-1990s with a series of albums that blurred the boundaries between their roots, rock and Latin influences. The duo’s commercial breakthrough came in 2003 with "Feast of Wire." Calexico’s album "The Thread That Keeps Us" from 2018 marked the band’s highest chart position to date and garnered superlative reviews in the USA and abroad. The Independent gave the record five stars while NPR proclaimed the music’s "creation of a landscape all its own."
