Symposium: We are Neighbourhood
FREE ENTRY, ARCHITEKTUR
"Never demolish, never remove or replace, always add, transform and reuse". With this credo Lacaton & Vassal have spent decades showing what can be achieved with a resource-saving, identity promoting and socially equitable approach to architecture. Their architecture is more topical than ever and has been awarded the main prize at the EU Mies Award.
Lacaton & Vassal Architectes, together with Frédéric Druot and Christophe Hutin, renovated three large 1960s apartment buildings in the Cité du Grand Parc in Bordeaux with minimal but effective interventions. The project, with a total of 530 residential units, makes it clear that modern, large-scale post-war housing can be successfully brought into the 21st century for all involved. As number one among ‘Europe’s Best Buildings’, the project is on display in the exhibition of the same title at the Az W.
