Impulstanz 2019: LENIO KAKLEA (FR/GR) / PRACTICAL ENCYCLOPAEDIA, CHOSEN PORTRAITS
DANCE/PERFORMANCE/MUSIC
Apparently, we completely underestimate our everyday life. Who stops to think about why they do everyday routines one way and not another? Train our bodies, make love, wonder around in the city or weigh ourselves – all this follows certain rituals, techniques and patterns that shape a person and their actions. Based on around 600 interviews, Paris-based Greek choreographer Lenio Kaklea created her own “Practical Encyclopedia”, from which she generates performances such as Chosen Portraits. Kaklea, who caused a sensation at [8:tension] back in 2012 and as a dancer with Boris Charmatz, selected seven practices and rituals for this solo to test and reflect their movement content using her own particular dance practice. The result is a surprising piece, which includes a video installation and a reading room for the audience as well as a lecture performance on 25th July in the gallery space of mumok’s exhibition Pattern and Decoration.
