A Good City has Industry
LITERATURE & DISCOURSE, ARCHITEKTUR
Where is there still room for the productive city? An example from London provides stimulus for Vienna while highlighting current challenges.
In 2013 the architect Mark Brearley bought a factory in South London where they produced metal trays. Untypically, he did not convet the building into loft apartments but helped the firm to renewed success. However the industrial area around Old Kent Road has now been declared a development zone by the City, and thousands of new homes are planned. Can a factory still survive there? To give local residents and businesses a voice, ‘what if: projects’ has established a location for public discussions with city planners and investors with the Action OKR project.
