Winter at MQ: art, music and enjoyment in the heart of Vienna
During the winter season, the MuseumsQuartier is transformed into an oasis of winter magic, where artistic impulses are in unmistakable harmony with encounters and enjoyment. Until 23. December 2024, visitors can expect an atmospheric ambience with concerts, live DJ sets, the MQ curling rink and Winter Race, as well as punch and winter snacks.
Music and atmosphere at MQ
Winter sounds, DJ sets and special live acts make the MQ a hotspot for music lovers in the run-up to Christmas. Every day from 16 – 22h, the “Winter Sounds” provide a lively atmosphere in the main courtyard, while DJs play live every Tuesday and Thursday from 18h onwards. A highlight of the program is the performance by Florian Loveshack on 21. November, who is known as a DJ, event manager and multimedia artist and impresses with his visual and musical creations.
Every Wednesday evening from 18.30h, musicians bring a variety of live performances - from experimental pop music to innovative soundscapes - to the stage as part of “MQ Hofmusik”. On 4. December, FARCE will provide a musical highlight: Veronika J. König will delight audiences with experimental pop, sophisticated sound and her current album “Not To Regress”, which combines feminist avant-garde and queer promotion of young talent.
Another highlight follows on 18. December with Lou Asril, whose unmistakable style reflects the zeitgeist and evolves with it. His musical foundation is based on classical piano training and early stage appearances, which earned him the prestigious Joe Zawinul Award at the age of just 17.
Artful enjoyment
Those who want to indulge in culinary delights as well as musical and artistic impressions will find a wide selection of winter delicacies at the punch huts of the MQ restaurants. Café Halle, Café Leopold, Dschungel Café, MQ Amore, MQdaily and the MQ Kantine invite you to linger with warming punch, fragrant mulled wine and winter snacks. The atmospheric ambience - created by designers Robert Rüf and Stefan Kainbacher - reflects the unmistakable flair of MQ.
Highlights for young and old: MQ Curling Rink & Winter Race
The MQ Curling Rink, which is open from Monday to Friday between 16 and 22h, on weekends and public holidays from 14 – 22h, offers a special experience. Visitors can put their curling skills to the test on two lanes and enjoy the light installations by Martin Markeli, which bathe the ambience in fascinating colors.
For motorsport fans and families, there is the Winter Race, also designed by Martin Markeli: On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, a miniature car race is held in the MQ main courtyard, delighting young and old alike and making children's eyes light up.
An event with heart: Charity Punch on 27. November
On 27. November at 18h, the MQ invites you to a special charity event. Under the motto “Drink punch and do good”, visitors can donate the deposit from their cup to support FEM.A, the association of feminist single mothers. The performance by femchor, a feminist choir that stands up against patriarchal structures, sexism and discrimination of all kinds, will also make this evening a special experience and reach the audience with a strong message.
Christmas spirit and inspiration at MQ Point
In addition to the exciting activities, the MQ Point offers a special range of Christmas decorations and creative gift ideas every day until 19h. Whether unusual Christmas decorations or the coveted MQ Annual Card - visitors will find inspiration for Christmas here. The four large Christmas trees decorating the MQ forecourt, sponsored by the Austrian Federal Forestry Office, also lend the area a special festive atmosphere.
