When the uprising in Cairo began in January 2011, the theatre-maker Laila Soliman was among the millions of people in Tahrir Square. The experiences that followed form the starting point for the development of No Time For Art, a continuing series of documentary performances in which the voices and lines of action of activists, artists, prisoners and members of the military condense into a unique process. Powerlessness and resistance, shock and anger lie close to one another when Laila Soliman builds works of a sobering density out of personal notes, testimonies and reports, which are overwhelming and touching at the same time: a personal answer to the official reports on police and military violence in Egypt before and after the revolution and a practice of alternative historiography.
