GRIND is a challenge to the senses. A room, that suddenly seems to be elastic; sounds that get the body quaking:; light that creates darkness; rhythm that infects our vision - and raises questions of what is the starting point of movement. In their collaboration, the dancer and choreographer Jefta van Dinther, the lighting designer Minna Tiikkainen and the sound designer David Kiers cancel out familiar principles of perception. They are inspired by the notion of synaesthesia, in which different sensory areas short-cut one another. In GRIND the individual elements of the performance metamorphose into an affect machinery at full steam. Body, lighting, and sound merge into a strange amalgam that carries one along, disturbs and moves.
