1998: Ten-year-old Lulje has to say goodbye to everything familiar. War has broken out in her homeland, and it\'s coming closer every day. Together with her parents and older brother Valon, she goes to stay with an uncle in Switzerland. The transition from living on a farm in the midst of an extended family of thirty-one people to Uncle Dardan\'s two-room apartment in the city presents a lot of challenges for the family.
Using a voice recorder, Lulje documents the adventure of her arrival in her new home, which she calls Otherland. Why is she supposed to bring birds with her on the first day of school? And why do people eat cheese soup out of a pot here? How are you supposed to understand which words are only schoolyard words and which ones are OK to use in the classroom? A brave girl takes us with her as she explores her new world, giving us a chance to see the familiar with different eyes and look at everyday life in Switzerland in an entertaining way.
A coproduction by Triad Zürich (SUI) and Theater am Kirchplatz Schaan (LIE) with the friendly support of the Liechtenstein Cultural Foundation
