»You can hold back from the suffering of the world, you have free permission to do so (...) but perhaps this very holding back is the one suffering you could have avoided.« (Franz Kafka)
In previous performances Barbara Kraus has already dealt with the possibilities and conditions of a good life for all people. The present state of the world and our ability for action in it are also themes of her new work. In view of the current development of ecological crisis and poverty, the Austrian performer and choreographer observes how we both individually and collectively turn away from the pain and desperation that are linked to the condition of planet earth and how our ability to react is increasingly marked by withdrawal, passivity and helplessness.
The performance seeks to use artistic means to make these repressed feelings heard and understood by exploring the relationship of present and hidden voices, emotions and their physical expression. Through an abstract and very physical approach, she questions the superficial explicitness and supposed assignability of language and uses her voice to create new, associative, dream-like, interlaced levels of meaning of a collectively traumatised physical awareness.
