Sound
is today a natural element, oftentimes an autonomous material in the various fields of contemporary fine art.
It encompasses all domains of (visual)-artistic style and production and enjoys continuously growing acceptance by audience and critics. These days, one can no more imagine the field of contemporary art without works with sound than one can imagine it without painting (whose demise people were talking about a couple of years ago).
A recent statement from the prominent Austrian artist, curator and theorist Peter Weibel reads as follows: »Sound art has become one of the most important currents in the art of the 20th century.« With works by fiveteen international artists, the exhibition »The Sound of Art« offers a look into the multifaceted spectrum of the artistic shaping and use of sound.
