Holly Hare (born 1998, UK) is an emerging curator with a research focus on socially engaged art, committing to a human-centred practice that aims to address socio-political issues and improve collective wellbeing. Prior to her higher education Hare worked as a Learning Support Assistant, aiding in the education of students with extra behavioural and educational needs. During this period, she also worked as a leader in local community groups that were ravaged by austerity policies in the UK. Throughout this work in her working-class hometown in the North-East of England, she identified institutional injustices that continue to underpin her curatorial practice. She furthered this work on a self-directed volunteering project working in municipal schools and running a community group in Navirai, Brazil.
Holly Hare is now absolving her Master’s degree in Contemporary Curating at Manchester School of Art after completing her Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Promotion. Her most recent work was a collaborative curatorial project addressing the violence and oppression inflicted by political borders.

Project info

Holly Hare aims to explore AI’s potential to liberate overworked labour forces from the oppression of modern-day capitalism throughout her residency at MQ, a location that represents the endurance of art and culture amid technological and social shifts. As a socially engaged curatorial activist she focuses on contemporary socio-political issues, using the artistic idea of ‘Utopia’ to imagine and advocate for creative solutions. Hare will research how AI technology and the capitalist regime it upholds are intrinsically linked and are significant threats to our collective wellbeing and creativity.
This research will culminate in the production of a publication, combining written essays, photography, artwork and creative writing on the subject. The curator hopes to supplement this research by exploring MQ’s existing exhibits/archive and collaborating with her peers throughout the residency.
