July 2024 - August 2024Beliban zu Stolberg was born in Hamburg in 1993 to a German mother and a Kurdish father.
She studied screenwriting at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin and graduated in 2019. Since then, she has worked continuously as a screenwriter for cinema, public broadcasters and streaming services. She works as a head writer as well as an episode writer and concept developer.
In 2023, she was selected as one of six participants for the Netflix Writing Academy. After completing the programme, the participants founded the writing collective POV Collecitve.
She has received various scholarships and writing residencies, such as the Robert Bosch Grenzgänger Scholarship 2018.
In 2023, her debut novel ZWEISTROMLAND was published by Kanon Verlag, which was extensively reviewed.
During her residency at MQ, Beliban zu Stolberg is working on her new novel project with the working title "Der letzte Brachvogel verschwindet". Like her debut novel "Zweistromland", this new book also takes place on several time levels. Once again, the author explores the question of how the past and present are linked. The novel is also about the moor, curlews, nature conservation, drugs, community and loneliness.
Beliban zu Stolberg not only wants to continue working on the story during the residency, but also intends to try out new writing methods for this novel project. She is currently experimenting with "nature writing" and would like to use her time at MQ to develop a strategy for translating the principles of "biophilic design" (naturalness in architecture) and "biomimicry" (translating the processes of nature into design) into writing.
