January 2025 - February 2025Alisa Gvozdeva was born in Saint-Petersburg, Russia in 1996, where she graduated Liberal Arts and Science Faculty of St.Petersburg University with major in Cognitive Science. Since 2022 she lives and works everywhere, but currently is based in Paris, France. Among her artist experiences she had two solo exhibitions in her hometown and lots of group projects, for example in Moscow Museum of Contemporary Art. Using traditional techniques like painting and ceramic, but being out of academic tradition, she creates her works in ironic and naive style. Connecting naturalist curiosity and anthropological research she studies how creative process defines the shape and content of her works. In 2022 she was offered to create a storefront installation commissioned by Hermès in St Petersburg.
Nowadays Gvozdeva is a nomad artist, so the external movements in her life defines her oeuvre.
For the Residency project at MQ Alisa Gvozdeva chose the theme of "dying imperialism", which is great represented in Vienna with its wide and controversial history. She wants to reflect on how beautiful buildings and others signs of past rich life’s of imperialism can be seen now. Is there something behind this beauty and who owns it nowadays in turbulent times? Gvozdeva considers today life in Europe through eyes of immigrant, but staying above the countries, times, nationalities, territories, being just a human who wants peace and artist who wants to fly. A series of painting and ceramics in her known naive style will be the result of the residency at MQ.
