November 2019 - November 2019Yoshinori Niwa (JP) is an artist working internationally. His practice takes the form of social interventions realised through performance, video and installation. His works all bear selfexplanatory, sloganlike titles, and are executed primarily on the street and in public spaces, experimenting with actions and propositions exposing the systems of exchange that drive contemporary society. He frequently places himself in unusual situations in order to undermine and expose the emptiness of systems designed to create an illusion of “publicness”.

During my residency at Q21, I plan to work on Vienna version of the social practice project “Withdrawing Adolf Hitler from a Private Space” that originally commissioned and produced by steirischer herbst’18. As a public campaign, I offer to dispose of any kinds of unwanted or compromising memorabilia from the fascist era, people can dump those objects into the container installed near by MQ building. The important thing is that you never know the container might be full, or empty, which activates the imagination by playing with the historical and legal condition of privacy in Austria. The result will be shown in the frame of the group exhibition “JAPAN UNLIMITED”, curated by Marcello Farabegoli and Liesa Takagi. The exhibition is schedule to open in September 2019.
